About Sharon Church
The Past
Sharon Full Gospel Church began with a Gospel mission in a tent in Pontypool Park during 1936. Many local people were converted with testimonies of miraculous healing and Holy Spirit baptism being common features under the ministry of Newport evangelist Howell Harris. This group of new Christian believers built Emmanuel Hall, which is now the Pontypool Salvation Army, (next to what was Pontypool Rugby Club) before moving into the current building on Osborne Road in 1952.
The Present
Sharon Full Gospel Church remains as a Christian witness to the whole of Pontypool, which is still one of the largest towns in Wales. Our church meetings provide an opportunity for people of all ages to worship God. Our award-winning community work “Hope for the Community,” although motivated by our Christian faith, is not itself religious – it serves everyone regardless of belief and currently supports hundreds of Pontypool families every year.
The Future
We remain committed to preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ by word and deed to everyone in Pontypool. We are currently consulting to construct a new church building which we hope will be a centre for both for the church and our community in Pontypool. Will you join us?
